5 UNPOPULAR CHRISTMAS OPINIONS

I was trying to think of something unique that I could write about for this season, and it hit me – I have some unpopular opinions about Christmas, so why not share them? Here we go!

1. HOUSEHOLD ITEMS ARE COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS

I love my mom so much, and I know she is reading this.

​As I get older, I find that I’ve been adding more things to my Christmas list that are for my home. Some examples include everything from microwave popcorn poppers, to smart lightbulbs I can use with Alexa, to dry food dispensers.

I 100 percent believe that Christmas and other present-giving holidays should be mostly about giving gifts someone wants, rather than something they need. If you want to get around this, you can always give a “family gift” or give a gift that’s labeled “for the house.” My mom and grandparents did that while we were growing up!

2. GOLD DECORATIONS ARE SUPERIOR TO WHITE DECORATIONS

​During this time of year, we typically see a ton of red, white, and green.

​However, I can’t help but like the gold decorations more. When I say decorations, I’m mainly talking about ornaments and those little trinkets people place around their homes.

If I were to decorate in a color scheme, I would probably choose red and gold or green and gold!

3. SANTA IS REALLY CREEPY

I absolutely love the magic Santa and the Christmas season bring for children and adults alike.

​However, the more you think about it, the creepier Santa is. He watches people when they sleep, breaks into their houses, owns an army of elf slaves who do hard labor 364 days out of the year…And we let children sit on his lap! 

I don’t know if I’d ever be able to keep Santa out of my house because of how magical he is, but kids don’t get that, so I understand why we keep Santa coming around every year.

4. PRESENCE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PRESENTS

​Obviously, this is something that you will learn as time goes on. I can’t deny that I love receiving a thoughtful gift from someone I love, and I love to give gifts just the same. However, I could care less if there are any presents under the tree. What I value most is the time I get to spend with my brother, mom, nana, husband, and all of my in-laws!
 
Sipping on hot chocolate or mulled wine while watching Christmas movies or decorating cookies, making Christmas-morning treats in the kitchen with mom, and the laughs I share with mine and Jonathan’s family as we play games is more than enough for me!

5. CHRISTMAS LISTS SHOULDN’T DISAPPEAR WHEN YOU GROW UP

I’m thankful that my mom keeps us in line as far as asking for a Christmas list. The truth is that most people want to get you something you want, just like when you were a child.

​Making a list and handing it out when someone asks for it is the best way to avoid ugly Christmas sweaters and things that you likely won’t use anyway.

I usually just use Amazon and make a wish list on there. If there is something else, I just save the link to my Amazon account with the links to the other items I’m interested in on a note document and share it with whomever asks!
