There's nothing better than those lazy weekends when you stay at home after a long and tiring week of work and do something together as a family. Jonathan, my mom, my brother and I decided to watch Me Time, a movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart, on Netflix over the weekend. Here's the good ole' Opinionated One review. THE PLOTSonny is a dedicated stay-at-home dad, but had a wild past with his best friend, Huck, who has a habit of throwing elaborate and somewhat dangerous parties. As Huck is planning his 44th birthday party, he calls on Sonny to attend. Sonny's wife decides she needs to take a vacation alone with their children, since she is rarely home due to the fact she is the family's breadwinner. She encourages Sonny to get in touch with Huck to celebrate with him. Sonny finds himself in the dessert with partygoers, but the event quickly changes after he finds his best friend is being hunted down by a loan shark. THE STORYLINE | 5/5I loved that this storyline takes a twist on the tired housewife narrative. Mark and Kevin are so funny together, and the antics they get into are hilarious. At the end of the day, they come together for a feel-good ending! I love the way to plot evolves and explores the ideas of family and friendship. THE ACTING | 5/5You can't go wrong with Mark and Kevin in the lead roles. They are comedy and action movie veterans, so the movie was done really well in the acting sense. Regina Hall played Sonny's wife, and she is also a phenomenal actress. The children were also really good in their respective roles. Overall, no complaints! THE STUNTS | 4/5There weren't many stunts in this movie, but there is one scene in particular I don't want to give away that I thought was done well. Of that, I think the stunts were great. Just surprised there weren't more. OVERALL RATING | 5/5I can't recommend this movie enough! It kept our attention as was filled with a bunch of laughs and memorable moments. I would recommend younger children skip out on this, but it is probably safe for children 10 and older. You can find it on Netflix.

After seeing rave reviews for the movie, and after enjoying Peele's movie "Get Out" a few years ago, I jumped at the chance to go see "Us" a week ago. To give you some context, please check out the movie trailer below. THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE MOVIE. IF YOU DON'T WANT IT TO BE SPOILED, CHECK BACK AFTER YOU'VE WATCHED THE FILM! PLOTAdelaide visits her childhood home along with her husband and two children. Haunted with a traumatic childhood memory of seeing her doppelgänger inside of a funhouse after walking away from her parents during a night at the boardwalk, she is fearful of seeing the girl again. Her worst nightmare comes true after her son sees a family of four standing in the driveway late at night. After calling the police, the family is confronted face to face with their own copies, who are out to kill them. The family spends the night running from their shadows and protecting one another while the world around them goes insane. CLICK OFF NOW TO AVOID SPOILERS HERE'S WHAT I TOOK AWAYI haven't really consulted any reviews or interpretations of Peele's latest film. But here's what I took away from it: SYMBOLISM
LESSONS I THINK WERE BEING TAUGHT1. FAMILIAL ROLES
There is a lot of pressure on men to be the "knight in shining armor" who will protect and be this confident macho man. While the father of the group did a lot to protect his family, he wasn't the real fighter of the movie. It was Adelaide. 2. OUR OWN WORST ENEMY
We have good and evil, represented by the people who live in the light and the people who live underground in darkness. At the end, we find out that Adelaide is really the original shadow. It is revealed that she switched with the real girl all those years ago. Darkness won, but good became evil when it was subjected to the things that were feeding it. 3. POLITICAL THEMES/GOING ABOUT THINGS THE WRONG WAYDuring this film, the shadows kill their owners and then form a giant wall around the world holding hands. While this is normally a symbol of peace and unity, that wasn't the case in the movie. I saw comparisons here between Trump's proposed wall. The shadows were all united and likely felt joy that they were free, but they went about it the wrong way by killing millions of people. 4. EVERYTHING IS NOT WHAT IT SEEMS/PERCEPTIONS
The other shadows can't speak. They just make incoherent noises. The "shadow" Adelaide can speak, but she has a creepy brokenness to her voice. At the end, we find out why. She was choked by shadow Adelaide, which may have crushed her windpipe during her developmental years. And, while we were scared and sad for Adelaide the entire film, it turns out she did a terrible thing and actually kidnapped a girl. We are supposed to think she is good, but it turns out that she is bad. CONCLUSIONSo, what did you get out of the film? Share your theories with me in the comments section or on social media!
