A lot of non-Christians make the mistake of believing that all Christians hate science and that science isn't a useful way to understand the world. But, for the majority of Christians, it is believed that science should be used to understand the world that God made for us. Science helps us produce medicine, find cures to diseases, understand how the world works, and so much more. Non-Christians and atheists will always say that they don't believe in anything, or they aren't really sure what to believe. The only problem with that statement is that it's a lie. Everyone on the face of this Earth believes in something. For Christians, we believe that Christ came down to Earth to live, teach, and die for our sins only to conquer death and rise from the grave. Crazy right? A lot of people greet the Christian belief with laughs and mockery because rising from the dead isn't necessarily an every day occurrence. If you're not living for Christ, maybe you are living for pleasure. Maybe you're living for family and friends. Regardless, there is something that you believe in. For a lot of people, it's science. WHY IS SCIENCE SO ALLURING?Science is very alluring because it gives, for the most part, physical evidence for various phenomena. For some reason, many people who view science as a philosophy need physical evidence for everything. Historical evidence is so mistrusted, even though it has given us our understanding of how the world worked before we were even born. For me, as I said, science is alluring because it helps me see and better understand God's creation. I feel like Johannes Kepler, a famous astronomer and Christian who uttered powerful words about discovering more about the world through science. SO, WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE?Philosophy is used to study origins as well as the ideas of reality and existence. The difference between science and philosophy is how they treat knowledge. Science traditionally covers natural occurrences, but philosophy wants to help us understand existence, concepts, and the nature of man. So, the philosophy of science is putting your faith in the act of science to bring about life out of nothing. In this case, people use science to answer questions about existence and why we are here. A lot of people say it's pretty crazy to believe that an all-knowing, all-powerful being created the Earth and people and everything we see around us. But, is it all that far-fetched when compared to the philosophy of science? The philosophy of science credits the Big Bang with creating life out of nothing, while Christianity credits a being with a mind and character with the creation of life and everything around us. Do this exercise and you'll see why I feel the philosophy of science isn't the way to go: Say you are walking on the beach and you see John loves Jane written in the sand. Wouldn't you think I was crazy if I said the waves produced that? How often have you seen a meal come together on it's own? Isn't there a cook? Have you ever seen a hurricane pick up what it needs and build a house? The answer to that is no. You never see a creation without a creator. It's completely unobservable in our every day lives. You never see a creation coming out of nothing, so how can we believe that life came out of nothing? Life comes from life in every instance we can observe. A child comes from his mother, a flower comes from a seed, etc. You get the picture. THAT IS WHY I CAN'T RELY ON SCIENCE AS PHILOSOPHYScience is 100 percent useful in my every day life. Whether it be eating calories, monitoring my heart rate, taking medication, or just observing, science is so useful and helps me understand this world and the body the good Lord gave me. To me, using science to explain origin is irrational. I can't believe that something comes from nothing. I've never observed that. I also believe that, if my atheist and agnostic friends really looked at this scenario and thought as logically as they do when they question Christians about God and Jesus, they too would see that it is much more logical to think God created everything than it is to believe that an explosion jolted DNA into just the right place to form complex creatures.
