Who doesn't love cuddling up with some popcorn on a crisp day in October to enjoy a few scary movies? I know I do! So, I figured today I'd share some spooky/Halloween-themed movies that I think you should check out. These are available on various streaming services, which I'll list beside the movie's title. Hubie Halloween - NetflixThe movie was so funny! You can see a number of stars you probably recognize in the image above. It was packed with a number of big names, including Kevin James, Rob Schneider and Steve Buscemi to name a few. At the end was a touching tribute to Cameron Boyce, who tragically lost his life a year or so ago. Many of the actors in the film had worked on projects with Boyce in the past. I would recommend this film. There are some innuendos, but it is pretty clean other than that. Uncanny Annie - Hulu
Tragedy Girls - Hulu
Veronica - Netflix
The Devil All The Time - Netflix

After seeing a ton of positive reviews and hearing from one movie critic that Adam Sandler's performance in "Uncut Gems" was Oscar-worthy, I knew I had to jump at the chance to see it. Luckily, my mom and brother also wanted to see it over the holidays. First, let's start with the movie's plot, and then I'll give my honest opinion on different aspects of the movie: THE PLOT
ACTING | 4/5I do think he played the character fairly well, but I think that someone else may have been able to do it just a bit better. But, as it goes for the actor himself, this is one of the best roles I've seen him play. THE STORYLINE | 5/5For example, I remember at one point in the movie that there was a ton of stuff going on at once. A lot of people talking and a lot of people doing things. It honestly got to the point where my mom and I covered our ears because all of the sensory overload was starting to cause a headache. While it was super annoying in the moment, I left baffled that the film was able to leave me feeling that way. Another thing on the story is that the ending is not what you expect it to be really. It has a real crazy twist that kind of left me shocked. The ending of the movie was kind of worth the wait. THE MEANING | 5/5
FINAL RATING | 5/5Overall, I think the movie earned its five gems! This is full of language and inappropriate themes, so I think it was rated R. I don't think it is a great movie for kids. It is important to continue to stay engaged in the storyline to follow everything. I hope you'll take time to see this movie in theatres before it goes to DVD and digital download. 12/20/2019 THE TOP 3 CHRISTMAS MOVIES FROM DISNEY+, AMAZON PRIME (FREE) AND NETFLIX THAT YOU MUST WATCH THIS WEEKENDRead NowChristmas is rapidly approaching, so I'm sure you're already in a festive mood. So, to help you continue in your holiday fun, I wanted to share with you my top three suggestions for Christmas movies on Disney+, Amazon Prime (free options), and Netflix! DISNEY+ MOVIESDisney+ is a new streaming service that offers the best of the company's movies and televisions shows. Here are some of the ones I will definitely be watching this weekend: I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
I like this movie because it is really relatable when it comes to people who are my age. We know what it is like to have to travel for the holidays and the various bumps in the road. A must watch for this season! THE SANTA CLAUSE SERIES
His ex wife and her new husband fight to get full custody of Charlie because Calvin becomes convinced that he is Santa. The first movie is low key a tear-jerker. Definitely one you need to watch. Keep watching the full series for more holiday fun. THE HOME ALONE SERIES
Culkin did a great job of portraying what it would be like if a kid is left alone in a home or in the big city. If you've never seen these, be sure to add them to your watch list. AMAZON PRIME VIDEO (FREE MOVIES)Amazon Prime has pretty slim pickings when it comes to free movies that are great for this time of year. Most of them are made by small companies and are usually romantic in some way. BAD SANTA
IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY
Together, the mall owner, the mom, her friend, and her daughter work together to save Christmas. I think this movie is super sweet, so I would recommend checking it out! NETFLIXLast but not least, Netflix has a great selection of holiday movies. Here are the top three I think you should check out: HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

"Knives Out" caught my attention when I saw a commercial where it boasted a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100. I’ve never seen a movie score that high on the site, so I was excited when my mom, brother, husband, and I went to see it after Thanksgiving. Let’s start, as we normally do, with a bit of the plot, and then delve into the different aspects of the movie: THE PLOT
ACTING | 4.5/5
THE STORYLINE | 5/5
THE MEANING | 5/5
It showed that, even though the family told her that she was like family, they really didn’t care for her when it came down to it. They, at one point, threaten to expose her mother’s immigration status and have her taken away. The next big plot point was money and what lots of money can do to people. After Harlan dies, he leaves behind a ton of money and books, as well as a publishing house. The family snaps when his will is read. They want their inheritance and they are willing to do just about anything to get it. Overall, the storyline really did have some points that made you think. FINAL RATING | 5/5This movie was really great, especially the more and more that I think about it. It really does give a "Clue" vibe. The movie was mysterious yet riddled with comic relief from each of the characters. I really enjoyed the movie and I hope that you will go check it out while it is still in theaters. This is definitely one movie we will be adding to our at-home collection. With Spooky Season right around the corner, Jonathan and I finally got to see It Chapter Two. The long-awaited sequel, which was released nearly two years ago, was pretty good. But how did chapter two stack up? Keep reading to learn more:
ACTING | 5/5
STORYLINE | 4.5/5SCARINESS | 2/5I will say that, to the person who is easily scared, this film will be scary for you. You will jump and you might be a little scared if you're walking out of the movie theatre alone. However, if you're a horror connoisseur, this film is childs play! SPECIAL EFFECTS | 5/5
UNDERLYING MEANING | 3/5
FINAL THOUGHTS AND REVIEW | 4/5I'd give this film a 4/5. I enjoyed watching it and thought that the film as a whole was good as a film. I personally don't think it is a good horror film, but I also don't know if it wasn't really scary, or if my tolerance for scariness increases by the year. Anyway, it is definitely worth a watch. Let me know what you think of the film in the comments. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. The website URL for the movie poster is linked on the image. When I was a teen, I used to HATE romantic comedies for their sappiness and unrealistic qualities. However, as a young adult, I've grown to actually like them quite a bit. The idea for today's blog post came to me after watching "Isn't It Romantic," a 2019 film staring Rebel Wilson. Basically, Wilson's character hits her head and wakes up living her own romantic comedy. The character grew up hating romantic comedies for their corniness. The movie playfully hit on all of those things, so I wanted to share some of my favorite under-rated romantic comedies I think you should go and check out: 1: THE BEAUTICIAN AND THE BEAST (1997)
2: SPANGLISH (2004)
3: 50 FIRST DATES (2004)
4: BABY MAMA (2008)
5: LAST HOLIDAY (2006)

5/6/2019 MOVIE MONDAY: (NO ENDGAME SPOILERS) 5 REASONS WHY TONY STARK IS MY FAVORITE AVENGERRead NowI recently made the insane decision to go to a showing of Avengers: Endgame at 11 p.m. on a Saturday. I was happy that no one was sitting right on top of me, so getting home after 3 a.m. wasn’t too much of a trade-off for me. Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil anything in the movie. I don’t want to push readers away by sharing the plot. I fell even more in love with the character of Tony Stark in this film. Traditionally, Stark is usually disliked for his arrogance and wealth. But, I appreciate the man, and I want to explain why! 1: HE DOESN’T ACTUALLY HAVE A SUPER POWER OR SPECIAL TRAINING 2: HE IS CONFIDENT AND HATED FOR IT
3: HIS CHARACTER REALLY DEVELOPED IN THE MOVIE SERIES
4: HIS INTENTIONS WERE GOOD FROM THE START 5: HE MADE SOMETHING OF HIMSELF OUT OF TRAGEDY
Tony masked his pain with sarcasm and arrogance, yes, but he still rose from the ashes of that pain to become better. CONCLUSION I’m interested in hearing who your favorite Avenger is and why. Let me know in the comments, or let me know on social media. Use the #TheOpinionatedOne to let me know on Twitter or Instagram!
It’s time for yet another Movie Monday here on the blog. I was really excited to go to the movies this past weekend just to get back into the swing of normal life. My mom, brother, and I debated over which movie to see, and we all decided to go ahead and watch Shazam! Let’s start with the plot before I get into the ratings. For our final rating today, we will use “Zaps!” THE PLOT
ACTING | 5/5 I really enjoyed the acting in this movie. I know that the boy who plays Billy Batson, Asher Angel, has been on Disney Channel’s “Andy Mack” as one of the lead characters. Overall, I didn’t feel like I was watching a movie, which is important to me! THE STORYLINE | 5/5 I know that superheros like Shazam have been around forever in comic books and TV series. However, I really enjoyed the storyline. I thought it was especially interesting that Billy could turn in to a whole different person to protect his identity! That helped him out several times in the film. There is also a very touching message in the film about family being those who care for you most, not necessarily those who you were born to! THE MEANING | 5/5 As I just mentioned, the message was really great. Not only was the message that home is where the heart is, not necessarily who you share DNA with, but it also gave a strong “we can do anything together” message! I really think this is a great movie in the way of meanings. SPECIAL EFFECTS | 5/5 FINAL RATING | 5/5You must go see this film before it leaves theatres! I saw it in a regular theatre, but I bet this movie would be great in 3D. I absolutely loved it and really liked the bit at the end. I didn’t expect the ending, and it can be hard to get those past me! I recommend this movie for all ages. I think boys, girls, parents, and grandparents will all find something to love about this movie! After seeing rave reviews for the movie, and after enjoying Peele's movie "Get Out" a few years ago, I jumped at the chance to go see "Us" a week ago. To give you some context, please check out the movie trailer below. THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE MOVIE. IF YOU DON'T WANT IT TO BE SPOILED, CHECK BACK AFTER YOU'VE WATCHED THE FILM! PLOTAdelaide visits her childhood home along with her husband and two children. Haunted with a traumatic childhood memory of seeing her doppelgänger inside of a funhouse after walking away from her parents during a night at the boardwalk, she is fearful of seeing the girl again. Her worst nightmare comes true after her son sees a family of four standing in the driveway late at night. After calling the police, the family is confronted face to face with their own copies, who are out to kill them. The family spends the night running from their shadows and protecting one another while the world around them goes insane. CLICK OFF NOW TO AVOID SPOILERS HERE'S WHAT I TOOK AWAYI haven't really consulted any reviews or interpretations of Peele's latest film. But here's what I took away from it: SYMBOLISM
LESSONS I THINK WERE BEING TAUGHT1. FAMILIAL ROLES
There is a lot of pressure on men to be the "knight in shining armor" who will protect and be this confident macho man. While the father of the group did a lot to protect his family, he wasn't the real fighter of the movie. It was Adelaide. 2. OUR OWN WORST ENEMY
We have good and evil, represented by the people who live in the light and the people who live underground in darkness. At the end, we find out that Adelaide is really the original shadow. It is revealed that she switched with the real girl all those years ago. Darkness won, but good became evil when it was subjected to the things that were feeding it. 3. POLITICAL THEMES/GOING ABOUT THINGS THE WRONG WAYDuring this film, the shadows kill their owners and then form a giant wall around the world holding hands. While this is normally a symbol of peace and unity, that wasn't the case in the movie. I saw comparisons here between Trump's proposed wall. The shadows were all united and likely felt joy that they were free, but they went about it the wrong way by killing millions of people. 4. EVERYTHING IS NOT WHAT IT SEEMS/PERCEPTIONS
The other shadows can't speak. They just make incoherent noises. The "shadow" Adelaide can speak, but she has a creepy brokenness to her voice. At the end, we find out why. She was choked by shadow Adelaide, which may have crushed her windpipe during her developmental years. And, while we were scared and sad for Adelaide the entire film, it turns out she did a terrible thing and actually kidnapped a girl. We are supposed to think she is good, but it turns out that she is bad. CONCLUSIONSo, what did you get out of the film? Share your theories with me in the comments section or on social media!
